Lurking I: Immortui

Lurking I: Immortui is a CRPG that is quite explicit in stating its main source of inspiration: Ultima 3. It also features callouts to some of the early Wizardry games, with a bit of The Bard’s Tale thrown in as well. That being said, Ultima 3 gets top billing on the game’s website.

And it’s certainly easy to see the Ultima inspiration in these screenshots:

Lurking boasts, according to its developers, classless character creation with a rich skill tree, support for a party of up to five characters, a large open world and a non-linear story, a plethora of items (including, of course, weapons and armour), and dozens of magic spells (and songs, as well).

Lurking can be downloaded from the developer’s itch.io page; builds of version 4.1 of the game are available for Windows, OS X, and Linux, and a legacy Windows build of version 3.2 is also available.

Version 4.0 just came out last weekend. It was a major code update and a number of minor features were added and a few more are in the works. If you loved the classic Ultimas, you should definitely check it out!
